Overview
A 12-hour Danube journey through the Iron Gate Gorge — Lepenski Vir, one of Europe’s oldest settlements, plus the medieval Golubac Fortress and a 1.5-hour river cruise.
Highlights
The Iron Gate Gorge of the Danube: Europe’s deepest river gorge, with cliffs rising 800 metres on both banks. At the narrowest stretch the rock walls plunge straight into the water — visually the most dramatic natural landscape in Serbia.
Lepenski Vir prehistoric site (c. 6000 BC): a Mesolithic culture predating the Egyptian pyramids by 3,000 years, and one of the find-spots of Europe’s earliest fish-form sculptures. A landmark archaeological site inside Đerdap National Park.
Golubac Fortress (14th c.): a medieval citadel guarding the Danube’s narrowest point, on the historic Ottoman–Serbian frontier. One of the most photogenic spots on the river.
Serbian river-fish lunch: catch-of-the-day catfish or carp at a riverside fishermen’s tavern in Donji Milanovac — the most authentic way to eat along Serbia’s Danube bank.
