A 13-hour cross-region day — the 22-tunnel, 5-bridge Šargan-8 steam railway, Kusturica’s wooden village from Underground, and the famous house in the middle of the Drina river.
Highlights
Šargan-8 steam railway: a narrow-gauge mountain line built in 1925 that loops through a figure-eight, climbing 300 metres via 22 tunnels and 5 bridges. The 2.5-hour ride feels like 1920s Eastern Europe.
Drvengrad (Kusturica’s village): an entirely wooden hilltop village built by director Emir Kusturica, used as the set for Underground and Life Is a Miracle — a pilgrimage site for Chinese cinephiles.
The Drina river house: a tiny wooden cabin perched on a rock in the middle of the Drina river. A classic National Geographic cover, and one of the iconic “you-have-to-see-Serbia” images on social media.
Mokra Gora National Park: some of Serbia’s best-preserved mountain scenery, on a spur of the Zlatibor range. Especially photogenic in the misty seasons.
Pricing
All our day tours and half-day tours use a transparent four-tier rate (the larger the group, the lower the per-person price):
- 1 traveller (solo): €310
- 2 travellers: €175 /person
- 4 travellers: €130 /person
- 8+ travellers: €110 /person
Price includes vehicle, driver-guide, and the admissions and meals listed in the package. Children (12 and under) at 80%. A 30% deposit is required to confirm; the balance is settled on arrival.
Itinerary
06:30 Pick-up at your Belgrade hotel (early start — it’s a long drive).
10:30 Tour Drvengrad and hear the Kusturica story on site.
12:30 Traditional mountain lunch (kajmak, lamb roast, home-baked bread).
14:30 Šargan-8 steam train, 2.5-hour ride.
17:30 Stop at the Drina river house near the town of Bajina Bašta.
18:30 Drive back.
21:00 Return to Belgrade.
